PCT Day 2: Hips Do Lie… A Lot.
First off, it’s STORYTELLING SATURDAY! And today I am just telling you about my day. Nothing story worthy has quite happened yet.
Woke up to a spectacular sunrise around 5am. We had a little bit of oatmeal, packed up, and headed out for the day around 6:30am.
We did about 13 miles today, not bad for Day 2, but man…. I WASN’T A WIMP.. okay maybe a little BUT IM WORKING ON ITTTTTTT…. I was hurting in my hips real bad. Lots of cramping. I stopped a few times because my leg simply couldn’t rotate around my hip right. Instead of bending in half, I was stretching my hips. Except I looked like Nacho Libre when he’s talking to the nun…
You know when go to the gym after a while and everything hurts and you can’t sit on the toilet? Yea that’s me. And the third day is alwaaayyyssss the worst.
Since we woke up so early, we were able to fly through the first 8 miles. It was only about 11am when we stoped for water. That’s like 2 miles per hour which isn’t that bad at all. However… after we stopped at this beautiful creek to get water, we had a 3 mile intense ascend. And we left around 12-12:30…. Terrible timing. Hiking straight up a mountain at the peak of the heat??
You know what they say. You live and you learn.
I got my first blister. I have some bruising on my hips. Shoulders are still burned and quite sore. But it was a good day nonetheless.
I am eternally thankful that I have Gabriel because he is so patient with me. He struggled behind me today to keep me motivated during the ascend. At one point I stopped just right there in the middle of trail, and he ran into the back of my pack… yikes. Sorry babe.
Eventually we did make it to our camping spot which is at an established campground. It has just been lovely so far. We met up with Gabriel’s mom and brother one last time before they leave for home. She took us to the campsites restaurant and I have a delicioussss sandwich.
We took a shower for a couple quarters and now we are all tucked in and ready for bed. Looking forward to cooler weather and less extreme elevation changes.
So that’s all for today’s entry. I’ll be writing on Storytelling Saturday in the next entry for Saturday 4/12. Thank you so much for reading.
